Why Website Marketing Isn’t Enough
This week I had an interesting conversation with someone who had called looking for a quick fix to their website traffic issues. This person called and asked what I could do to bring traffic to his website. We discussed different website marketing options - email marketing, search engine optimization, pay per click ads, social media websites - and then I asked him a question he had no answer for:
“Have you considered that your website itself is the problem?”
This person was taken aback by my suggestion as if I had insulted his child. I went on to explain that often times the source of website traffic issues can be the website itself. I could tell as the conversation ended that he had never thought of this.
Now this person is not unique. I frequently get calls from folks looking for a quick fix in this area. The reality is that if your website hasn’t been honed to the point where it can pull people in and meet your goals it makes very little sense to embark on a large website marketing campaign.
To make an analogy, it would be like throwing a housewarming party when the house isn’t finished. And just as nobody wants to dodge your contractors during your premature party, nobody wants to spend much time on your website if it isn’t ready for prime time.
Remember that your website is the foundation of everything you do online. Without a solid foundation no amount of time or money spent on website marketing is going to make a significant difference.
